  Building Security

Building security and the safety of our tenants and visitors is our highest priority. The building security system and procedures have been put in place to maximize personal safety and minimize property damage.

Personal Safety/Office Security Tips

It is recommended that each tenant develop their own office security guidelines; however, a few general personal safety and/or office security tips are listed below for your convenience:

  • Be alert. Always be aware of your surroundings.
  • Always report any suspicious person(s) and/or activity to the Property Management Office and the DC Police Department.
  • Do not get on an elevator if you sense something is not right or if you feel uncomfortable. Do not allow others to follow you (piggy-back) onto an elevator or into a secured area to avoid using their security access card.
  • If you enter a public corridor or stairwell and encounter someone who looks suspicious, take the first exit or enter the first office you can.
  • During normal business hours, offices, desks and entrance areas should not be left unattended. If unattended, the office, desk, etc. should be secured. Employees are urged to lock up and/or take valuables such as purses with them when they leave their workstation.
  • Keep an inventory of all office equipment including serial numbers.
  • Limit personnel access to secured locations.

Suspicious Persons

If you see suspicious or offensive persons in the building, please call the Management Office immediately. If possible, make note of appearance, clothing, etc. in order to assist building security in locating them.

Reporting a Problem

If you have a security problem, see a suspicious person, see a suspicious event, or have a safety concern, call the Property Management Office immediately at (202) 371-1330. The phone will be answered during normal business hours by the Property Management staff and routed to Security personnel after hours.

Access to Secured Areas

Occasionally, it will be necessary to gain access to secured areas of the building, i.e., telephone closets, air handling rooms, etc. In order to maintain the integrity of these areas, keys may be signed out at the Property Management Office, Suite 1180 West, or at the Security office at the loading dock on a temporary basis; a driver's license may be requested as a deposit.

Garage Panic Alarms

Garage panic alarms are located throughout the parking garage. These push-button alarms are located on orange colored columns throughout the garage. When activated, these alarms emit a strobe light and send an electronic message to the East Desk Security Post; a security officer will be dispatched immediately to that area. These alarms should only be used for emergencies and not used to summon a parking attendant.
